It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the record chasers, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to create her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven global championships have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it has been a disappointing period because I feel like I've had no rhythm whatsoever," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit activate and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to play and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the assurance to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have delayed plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
