Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
