Condemnation Erupts as Former President Trump's Comments on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Fierce Rebuke

Personalities from both sides of the partisan aisle and the Hollywood world are coming together to censure former President Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic deaths of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Brentwood residence, Trump took to his platform to label the deceased director as "tortured and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's demise was "due to the hostility he caused others through his enormous, unyielding, and incurable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "unprecedented era of America".

Police Developments and Arrest

Police have since confirmed the arrest of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. Reports indicate his bail was established at a substantial amount.

A Wave of Condemnation from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was swift and scathing.

This is a disgusting and vile statement,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, similarly condemned the statements. She pointed to previous comments from Trump regarding political violence, asking, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any worse?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "He is a sick man."

Echoing this sentiment, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just lost it. Now implying the Reiners caused their own demise because they opposed him. So sick."

Rebuke from Within Party

Some Republican elected officials also expressed disapproval.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". Greene also alluded to struggles with addiction and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow GOP congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disrespectful" considering the circumstances. He openly challenged members in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. During a previous interview, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump return to power.

"We see authoritarianism on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed criticisms, Reiner had in the past shown "absolute horror" and denounced violence for political ends without reservation after the shooting of a different individual.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously recounted the story of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's demand for "a specific hair product" as posing on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
